COVINGTON, LA – September 19, 2025

For the second time this season, the John Paul the Great Academy Guardians clashed with the Northshore Vultures, and once again, the outcome was never in doubt. Just four weeks after a commanding 64–6 victory in the season opener, the Guardians traveled to Covington and widened the margin, unleashing a balanced offensive and suffocating defensive effort that silenced the home crowd and underscored the team’s championship aspirations.

Explosive Offense Sets the Tone

Offensive line drives away the Vultures

Junior quarterback Daniel Charpentier led with both his arm and legs, completing 2 of 4 passes for 28 yards and a touchdown while adding 82 yards rushing on just three carries, including a long 41-yard burst. His dual-threat performance kept the Vultures’ defense without an answer all night. Regarding the unusually high four passing attempts, Coach Richard commented, “We were running some stuff well in practice during the week, and that made it into the game. Daniel has a great arm, he really does, but he doesn’t mind running the veer either.”

The ground game once again proved unstoppable. Riley Lormand ripped off 60 yards and three touchdowns on only four carries, while Nicholas Odinet added 36 yards and a score. Sophomore Matthew Guidry chipped in 36 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Grant Thompson found the end zone with a 28-yard run. In total, the Guardians rushed for 250 yards on 17 carries—an astounding 14.7 yards per attempt.

Even special teams got in on the act, with freshman kicker Noah Hensgens booming 10 kickoffs for 421 yards, including a 60-yard long and one touchback.

Defensive Wall

If the offense kept the scoreboard humming, the defense handed Northshore a shutout. The Guardians piled up 54 total tackles with 11.5 tackles for loss, led by Dominic Cramer’s nine stops, including 3.5 TFLs and a sack. Senior Jacques Odient added six tackles and a tackle for loss, while Riley Lormand contributed on both sides with four tackles and three TFLs.

The turnover battle swung heavily in JPGA’s favor as well. The Guardians recovered five fumbles, highlighted by Odient’s 57-yard return, keeping the Vultures pinned back and erasing any hope of sustained drives.

With the final whistle, John Paul the Great secured another emphatic win over Northshore, proving that the early-season blowout was no fluke. The Guardians have now outscored the Vultures by more than 120 points across two meetings, demonstrating not just dominance but improvement as the season has progressed.

Looking Ahead

With this rematch firmly behind them, the Guardians continue their undefeated march to defend their championship with confidence. This Thursday’s game sets up a contest against cross town opponent First Baptist Christian School at the Broussard Sports Complex. “First Baptist is going to give us their best shot,” Richard said. “We’ve got to match their intensity with our own execution and focus.” If last Friday night was any indication, John Paul the Great Academy is only getting stronger.
